Add your GA4 and Meta Pixel to your personal website

On the Pro plan and above you can put your own Google Analytics 4 and Meta Pixel on your personal website to track traffic, subscriptions and donations.

Written by Firstory

What this does

Your personal website is a standalone site Firstory generates for your show. Once you add your own Google Analytics 4 and Meta Pixel, what listeners do on that site is reported to your own GA and Meta accounts — page traffic, plus conversion events for subscriptions and donations.

This feature is available on the Pro plan and above. Firstory's own tracking code loads on every plan; it runs independently of yours and neither affects the other.

How to set it up

  • In the Firstory dashboard, open PROMOTIONPersonal Website in the left sidebar.

  • Scroll down to Advanced Settings.

  • In GA4 measurement ID (your screen may still read Google Analytics Tracking ID), enter your measurement ID. It starts with G- — for example G-XXXXXXXXXX. You can find it in Google Analytics under Admin → Data streams.

  • In Meta Pixel ID (your screen may still read Facebook Pixel ID), enter your numeric Pixel ID — for example 000000000000000. You can find it in Meta Events Manager.

  • Click Save.

You can fill in just one of the two fields. To remove a tracking code, clear the field and save.

If you filled in these fields before this feature launched, please go back and enter them once more.

Which conversion events are sent

Beyond page views, the key actions on your personal website are sent to both GA4 and Meta:

  • Viewing the site | Meta PageView / GA4 page_view

  • Starting checkout (a listener picks a plan and reaches the payment page) | Meta InitiateCheckout / GA4 begin_checkout

  • Joining as a free member | Meta Lead / GA4 join_group

  • Signing up for a new account | Meta CompleteRegistration / GA4 sign_up

  • Subscription completed | Meta Subscribe / GA4 purchase

  • One-off donation completed | Meta Donate / GA4 purchase

Subscription and donation events carry the amount and currency. Each transaction is sent once — reloading the result page does not double-count it — and a failed or abandoned payment sends no conversion event at all.

Consent for visitors in Europe

Visitors from Europe see a cookie consent banner on your personal website. No events are sent until they accept, and if they decline, nothing is sent for that entire visit. This keeps the site compliant with local law, so the numbers in GA or Meta may be lower than your actual visitor count.

FAQ

Q: How long until it takes effect?
A: Immediately after you save. GA4's own reports lag behind, though — the realtime report shows data right away, while standard reports usually take 24 hours.

Q: I inspected my site and only found Firstory's own tracking code.
A: Check three things: your plan is Pro or above, the field is filled in and saved, and (for visitors in Europe) cookie consent has been accepted. When all three hold, your tracking code runs alongside Firstory's, each collecting into its own account.

Q: I filled this in a long time ago and the field is now empty.
A: This feature was rebuilt before launch. Just enter your IDs once more.

Q: I get a format error when saving.
A: A GA4 measurement ID must start with G-; legacy Universal Analytics UA- tracking IDs and Google Tag Manager GTM- container IDs will not work. A Meta Pixel ID must be digits only, with no spaces or other characters.

Q: My plan is not Pro and the field is locked.
A: This feature is limited to the Pro plan and above. See what each plan includes on the pricing page.
